Folktales in the Philippines came into print through collections and translations during the American occupation. Books such as John Maurice Miller's "Philippine Folklore Stories" in 1904 and Mabel Cook Cole's "Philippine Folk Tales" in 1916 were prime examples of these anthologized tales, in which American anthropologists collected the oral tales that were circulated among the Indigenous groups in the Philippines.
