Ayār-e Dānesh (The Hallmark of Knowledge)

The book was a paraphrase of Anwār-e Sohailī, which is, in turn, a translation of Kalīla wa-Dimna. The translator, Abu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak Nagori, was an Indian who had learned Persian as a foreign language(مهدي, ابوالقاسم, and اله, n.d.). The book was first published in 1588 in India. It was published again in a few lithographed and handwritten editions in the nineteenth century including one in 1893 by Munshi Nawal Kishore in Lucknow, India. This publisher published quite a few of the works of Persian literature in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (Mohammadi and Ghaeni 2001). The translator changed some of the difficult Arabic vocabularies to easier equivalents in the vernacular and deleted the Arabic sayings, too. The book was intended for young readers.
